Mine Geologist



- Be a leader in safety & health, environmental, and community relations

- Ensure compliance with all environmental and regulatory laws

- Ensure timely release of ore and waste polygons to direct mining

- Ensure timely delivery of blast hole samples to assay lab, with prioritization as needed

- Conduct and oversee QAQC of blast hole samples with insertion of controls

- Evaluate assay QAQC data; explain and communicate precision and/or contamination issues

- Maximize ore recovery and minimize dilution with stockpiling and ore blending using analytical and geological constraints

- Monitor and understand blast heave, with recommendations

- Reconcile modelled vs grade control vs mined ore and waste; explain variances

- Conduct logging of blast hole samples

- Monitor blast hole sampling and costs/productivity

- Conduct geological pit mapping




- Strong organizational and time management skills

- Self-motivated and acts with a sense of urgency

- Work closely with mining & process teams to optimize ore/waste mining and ROM pad delivery

- Ensure consistency with Company values, strategy & adherence to best practices




- Bachelor of Science in Geology or closely related field

- Advanced degree preferred in Economic Geology or closely related field

- 1-5 years of metalliferous open pit geology production experience

- underground experience advantageous

- competent in MS Office, ArcGIS, acQuire and Vulcan  

- Competent in reconciliation, sampling and QAQC

- Strong mapping and structural geology skills

- Understanding of economic parameters of mining operations

- Legally able work in the USA

- Possess a valid USA drivers’ license

- Fluent in English with exemplary verbal and written communication skills

- Be in good physical health




  • Work is in and adjacent to an operating gold mine


  • Field work may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles


  • Employee is required to stand, sit, lift, carry, possess manual dexterity, talk, hear and see


  • Be able to walk over uneven ground and rugged terrain up to 1 mile per day in hot, humid weather and cold weather with occasional snow


  • Occasionally may be required to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds)


  • Perform work shifts of 8-10 hours, and occasionally up to 12 hours in length


  • Safely operate 4WD light vehicles on highways and off-road


  • Wear personal protective equipment including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and ear plugs
