Senior Metallurgist

JOB RESPONSIBILITES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides technical support and leadership to the operating and maintenance teams to maximize process efficiency with a focus on safety and environmental stewardship
  • Supports, promotes and takes a leadership role in an environment of participatory management and continuous improvement
  • Ensures the process operates at a high level of technical performance
  • Investigates and implements opportunities to increase competitive advantages and align them with the organization’s overall strategy
  • Provides a leadership role in planning, performing and directing metallurgical testing in the lab and plant
  • Supports process control systems including data historian and advanced process control applications
  • Provides a leadership role in budgeting, forecasting and metal accounting functions
  • Supports regulatory reporting requirements
  • Supports Metallurgical Superintendent and Metallurgist functions
  • Acts as the primary liaison between the Mine/Geology Departments and the Process Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position Qualification:

 

  • Knowledge:
  1. Detailed understanding of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements.
  2. Detailed knowledge of comminution, flotation, CIL, carbon handling, refining, cyanide destruction and tailing storage unit operations.
  3. Detailed knowledge of analytical and metallurgical laboratory operations.
  4. Detailed knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex metallurgical and processing systems and analyses.
  5. Knowledge of plant process control systems including advanced process control techniques.
  6. Detailed knowledge of Metallurgical accounting procedures and gold standards protocols.
  7. Sound knowledge of participatory management practices including root cause analysis, SPC and lean manufacturing.
  8. Good working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation programs.

  • Education:
  1. BS, or higher level degree, in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other related field.
  2. Satisfactory combination of education and experience in the job related functions of this job will be considered as substitute for items listed above.
  • Experience:
  1. A minimum of five (5) years of metallurgy experience in base and/or precious metals processing is required.
  2. Previous experience supervising, enhancing and monitoring a team of operating or technical staff is beneficial.
  3. Satisfactory combination of education and experience in the job related functions of this job will be considered as substitute for items listed above.
  4. Experience with ultra-fine grinding and leach optimization is preferred.
