Dumps Planning Engineer

  • Produce accurate dump designs to accepted standards
  • Review final and interim dump designs for operational effectiveness and safety
  • Produce precise daily, weekly and rolling three month mine and dumps plans that maximize efficiency and productivity while following the constraints of the current long-range plan and forecast
  • Provide waste dump plan input for the Daily, Weekly and Monthly mine plans
  • Coordinate with mine operations any changes required to meet monthly mine and dump plan requirements
  • In partnership with Mine Operations, ensure that dumps and stockpiles are progressing as planned, by performing regular monitoring and inspections
  • Provide documentation on EOM dump capacities, update dump faces for EOM reconciliation; Present and facilitate weekly and monthly mine planning and ops meetings.
  • Consult and develop a close working relationship with Geotechnical Engineer to optimise dump stability
  • Ability to cross-train within the mining engineering group as required
  • Comply with all safety requirements and observe all company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement culture
  • Performs other mine engineering duties that may reasonably be required




  • Tertiary qualification(s) in Mining Engineering; and
  • Eligibility for membership of a professional body desirable.


  • 1-5 years of experience in a hard rock mining environment
  • Must have knowledge of Vulcan or ability to learn the software
  • Must have excellent computer skills with MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.
  • Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
  2. Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 25 pounds) during the course of the workday.
  3. Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  4. Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
