The role

To provide accurate, timely advice that identifies minable ore and that meets the requirements of the mining plan. Plan and supervise implementation of grade control drilling activities while ensuring core is prepared, logged, sampled, and assayed in a timely manner.

The position holder will be required to work in all operational areas of the mine with core role duties across each function and operational area specific duties. Training will be provided to ensure efficient and effective performance when assigned to different areas of the operation.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Identify and correctly classify the ore zones & construct ore definition models
  • Ensure grade control and ore production data is accurate and timely
  • Assist with interpretation of the ore body
  • Complete geological mapping, sampling and trenching
  • Maintain the grade control database and ensure it is up to date
  • Collect and analyse grade control data to complete the grade control modelling and ore blocking
  • Review stope and ore drive plans
  • Manage the underground grade control drilling & ROM rehandle
  • Maintain mined versus predicted variance tracking
  • Assist the Senior Geologist completing reconciliation reports
  • Maintaining the highest standards of health and safety standards at all times

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • A Bachelors degree in Geology, Honours or postgraduate qualification preferred
  • First Aid Certificate and current driver’s licence
  • Two to five years open pit mining and/or underground mining knowledge preferred
  • Intermediate computer literacy including experience in mining software and databases
  • Understanding of grade control practices in a production environment
