OceanaGold's Macraes Mine is seeking an Underground Electrician to join the team. The ideal candidate will be a team player who collaborates with operations in alignment with OceanaGold's Purpose, Vision and Values. Macraes is New Zealand's largest gold mine, with 650 employees and contractors on site, therefore there are excellent career prospects.

The role

Our Underground Electricians carry out preventative and breakdown maintenance, diagnose and remedy faults on underground mining electrical equipment, install and maintain underground electrical, high voltage, low voltage and communications infrastructure.

Whilst working at the Macraes site you will have the opportunity to grow your career and we are committed to the ongoing investment in your professional development. We will offer practical and rewarding experiences which will keep your workday varied. This will include but is not limited to training on submersible pumps, high voltage operations, leaky feeder communications systems, tele remote operating systems, VSD's and PLC's.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Diagnosing faults or breakdowns
  • Undertaking repairs or component change-outs as required to minimise mobile plant downtime
  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping in the work area; maintains and keeps tools clean
  • Inspect and maintain underground pumping system. Repair and deliver pumps when required
  • Performing all tasks safely, in accordance with standard operating procedures

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • NZ Electrical practicing licence preferably with a Mining endorsement
  • At least two years relevant underground mining experience
  • Effective problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyse a problem and assess the most appropriate solution
  • An excellent work ethic and the ability to work both as a member of a team, as well as independently
  • Full Manual driver's licence
  • A high level of personal safety and workmanship
