Senior Mine Engineer - Short Range

The role:

Through the use of effective mine engineering practices, manage and provide support to the technical services planning groups, both long and short range time frames.  Ensure that all functions are completed in a safe, timely and professional manner.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the strategic planning functions to ensure rolling mining schedules adhere to LOM objectives.
  • Manage the development of the Life of Mine Plan.
  • Manage the development of mineable pit designs from shells.
  • Review final and interim dump designs for operational effectiveness and safety.
  • Manage the production of precise daily, weekly, and rolling three month mine and dumps plans that maximize efficiency and productivity while following the constraints of the current long-range plan and forecast.
  • Maintain design database, standard for all design areas and design signoff process.
  • Coordinate with mine operations any changes required to meet monthly mine and dump plan requirements.
  • Improve effective use of mining software and investigate technical solutions/new products with regard to production planning process.
  • Direct the planning of mining ore and waste in accordance with the budget and LOM plan, continually seeking to improve the annual/LOM plan by finessing the pit designs, haul profiles and dumping strategies.
  • Assist and manage the preparation of the annual mining budget, prepare periodic reports on production activities relating to the weekly, monthly and LOM.
  • Mentor and upskill junior mine engineering staff.
  • Monitor the short- and long-term plan to ensure critical path targets are achieved.
  • Manage survey workload and improve processes.
  • Ensure mining is planned and executed to maximize the recovery of ore and minimize mining dilution.
  • Use reconciliation data to ensure the defined ore is optimally mined to reliably predict grade and tonnages.
  • Develop a sense of continuous improvement and ensure appropriate training programs are in place to meet safety and production requirements.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and observe all company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other mine engineering duties that may reasonably be required.

 The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering from an accredited University.
  • 10+ years’ mining experience with at least 5 years’ of exposure to gold mining industry in an open pit environment.
  • Must have knowledge of Vulcan or ability to learn the software.
  • Must have excellent computer skills with MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.
  • Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
  • Ability to interpret and disseminate technical information between internal and external stakeholders.
