The role

OceanaGold are seeking a suitably experienced and motivated Executive Vice President – Sustainability & Social Performance, to provide strategic global leadership and management of group sustainability development initiatives. You will also assume overall responsibility for all company environment, communications, external affairs and social performance, as well as permitting and licensing of our global operations.

Based in Brisbane and reporting direct to our CEO, your strong expertise and proven track record of accomplishments spanning social performance, environmental and social sustainability, communications, and stakeholder engagement, will ensure your success in this challenging and highly rewarding C-suite appointment.

As we focus on maintaining and improving one of the highest standards of governance in the industry along with sustainable value creation and growth, this exciting role is as a great opportunity to join a restructured Executive Leadership Team with a newly appointed CEO and leverage your extensive sustainability experience to help strategically shape the future strategy of OceanaGold Corp. in line with our stated purpose “to mine gold for a better future.”

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the group sustainability strategy
  • Develop, implement and monitor company policies, policy frameworks and procedures
  • Communicate the function's strategy and its relationship to the organization's mission, vision, and values
  • Build and perpetuate a business culture which places high value on minimizing risk and delivering excellent performance against environment KPIs
  • Design, develop and deliver permitting and licensing strategies for our mining operations and work closely with the General Managers of each of our mines to optimize delivery
  • Forecast future business impacts and translate these into pre-emptive breakthrough strategies
  • Simplify seemingly complex and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve global functional issues whilst ensuring organizational balance across multiple stakeholders
  • Build strong capable teams that apply diverse skills and perspectives in order to achieve common goals
  • Ensure relevant governance committees are informed ahead of time of significant issues and the actions being undertaken to resolve these
  • Gain the confidence and trust of our business through managing our global function with honesty, integrity, and authenticity
  • Lead execution of complex reports, identifying and interpreting complex patterns and trends, and translating those insights into actionable recommendations
  • Ensure functional and broader group compliance with company HS&E policies, procedures and mandatory instructions that safeguard the environment, protect the wellbeing of individuals, and minimize broader business risk.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate reporting to the CEO and other internal AND external parties

About you

  • At all times, behave in a manner consistent with OceanaGold’s Values
  • A globally experienced ESG professional who desires to be based in Brisbane (Company relocation support available)
  • Have more than three years reporting to a CEO in the mining industry together with significant senior level functional and cross-cultural management experience
  • Demonstrated experience as an Executive Leadership Team member or General Manager/Vice President operating/involved in technically, socially and culturally diverse environments
  • Commercial acumen relevant to the role and strong demonstrated abilities to interface with the Board, investors, analysts, and shareholders.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills.
  • Be a natural coach, inclusive in nature, humble in your dealings with others whilst also inspiring those around you and demonstrating very high levels of enthusiasm for your work.
