Underground Geotechnical Engineer

OceanaGold’s Macraes Mine is seeking an experienced Underground Geotechnical Engineer to join the team. The ideal candidate will be a team player who collaborates and engages through effective customer support in alignment with OceanaGold’s Purpose, Vision and Values. Macraes is the largest mining operation in New Zealand, with over 600 employees and contractors, offering excellent career progression opportunities.

The role

Manage the stability of the underground working environment through systematic data collection, geotechnical analysis, planning and underground inspections to mitigate risk to personnel and equipment whilst allowing production targets to be met.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Daily inspections of the underground environment, to ensure the highest safety standards are maintained
  • Comply with the requirements of the Ground Control Management Plan
  • Maintain a photographic record of all stope brows and other items of interest
  • Conduct structural mapping of all development and produce structural information for use in mine design
  • Assist with ground control requirements in daily, weekly and monthly plans
  • Communicate clearly with all relevant departments to ensure underground production is maximised

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • A recognised degree in Rock Mechanics/Engineering Geology or equivalent tertiary qualification
  • Full and Current driver's licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is essential
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in underground mining essential
