About the role

OceanaGold are seeking a suitably qualified and motivated Legal Counsel to provide high quality, timely and independent legal advice to our corporate team and mining operations spanning the Asia Pacific and North America. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, you will be a key point of contact within the organisation for legal matters and help OceanaGold in achieving its strategic and commercial objectives. . Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts including but not limited to consulting, procurement, construction, IT and confidentiality agreements.
  • Managing annual reporting requirements pursuant to securities and corporate regulations and rules of the Toronto Stock Exchange.
  • Assisting with corporate governance and other company secretariat matters.
  • Supporting the management of disputes.
  • Anticipating and identifying legal issues of concern to management and proactively developing effective legal strategies and practical solutions.
  • Supporting the implementation of relevant legal, governance and compliance initiatives.
  • Managing and liaising with external service providers.

 About you

  • Law degree with professional admission and certification to practice law in Australia without supervision.
  • Minimum of 3 years post qualification working experience.
  • A high degree of professional ethics and standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills.
  • A practical, results-oriented approach combined with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous experience practicing at a top tier law firm, particularly with a focus on mining, or experience working in-house within the mining or heavy industry will be highly regarded
