This is an exciting opportunity to join our Projects team as we progress to the feasibility study stage for a new gold mine at Wharekirauponga, 10km north from the existing minesite in Waihi. A rich gold deposit of over 1.5m ounces of gold has been identified and the project is on the government's list of projects to be fast tracked through the consenting process.
You will be esponsible for helping monitor and manage geotechnical operational risks associated with the underground, surface operations along with the tailings storage facility and providing solutions to day to day geotechnical problems.
Key resposnsibilities include:
- Complete geotechnical mapping and geotechnical core logging for specific drilling programs.
- Implemention and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation.
- Management of geotechnical QA/QC and Monitoring databases in line with site guidelines.
- Undertake regular geotechnical inspections of all surface, underground and tails storage infrastructure that requires geotechnical input or monitoring in relation to Ground and Strata Instability.
- Assist with the review and implementation of site Geotechnical Management Systems such as the Principal Hazard Management Plan and the Ground Control Management Plan.
- Understanding of soil and rock mechanics fundamentals in relation to excavation, backfill, tunnelling and ground support design.
- Supervision of consultants and contractors, as necessary.
- Complete or coordinate the timely preparation of geotechnical reports relating to feasibility and project assessments.
- Report on geotechnical issues as required to Mine Management and Statutory Authorities.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in either Geomechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology.
- Current Driver’s License with the ability to drive a manual vehicle.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a mining environment is preferred.
- Exposure to Geotechnical Design Work
- Familiarization with Deswik software packages an advantage.
- Excellent opportunity to work on a mining project currently at feasibility study stage.
