Job Description

Drive improved environmental performance through monitoring and analysing environmental effects and using this analysis to better inform decision making. Responsible for ensuring that mining activities are monitored for their impact on the environment so that compliance with consent conditions can be demonstrated.

  • Carry out monitoring and sampling of the following, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures:
    • sound,
    • dust,
    • vibration,
    • rehabilitation projects,
    • bird life,
    • soils,
    • water quality and quantity.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of vibration monitoring system to ensure a high reliability of vibration data collection/reporting.
  • Preparation of reports related to consent compliance, discretionary investigations, and site reporting requirements.
  • Maintenance and calibration of all monitoring equipment.
  • Liaise with technical advisors and senior environmental staff to ensure recommended actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Establish and manage time, focus and priorities to achieve individual and team performance goals.
  • Present environmental focused information to internal groups.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant external stakeholders.
  • Identify, plan and (if appropriate) implement environmental improvements.
  • Undertake site inspections
  • Advise appropriate site personnel of any non-compliances, non-conformances or environmental irregularities and assist in resolutions.
  • Carry out administrative functions (write reports, attend meetings, and disseminate information, complete purchase and service orders) commensurate with role.
  • Participation in an on-call roster to provide 24/7 coverage for monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in the field of environmental management or earth science is required.
  • Full and current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in the mining or construction industry.
