Job Description

The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.

Seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Accounts Officer (Tax) who will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with national and local tax laws through accurate tax return preparation, strategic support, and audit coordination. This role requires analytical review of tax implications, in-depth knowledge of tax regulations, and proactive engagement with internal departments and external stakeholders. The position also contributes to developing and implementing tax compliance strategies and initiatives. Additionally, the Account Officer – Tax is tasked with managing the tax compliance requirements of multiple legal entities, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely submission of all statutory reports across the organization. The role will report to the Financial Accountant (Tax).

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate and timely tax returns in compliance with national and local tax laws.
  • Perform analytical reviews and assess the tax implications of various transactions.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and auditors.
  • Support tax audits and respond to queries and assessments.
  • Manage tax compliance across multiple legal entities, ensuring consistency and timeliness.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of tax compliance strategies and process improvements.
  • Prepare and file VAT, income tax, withholding tax, and other returns accurately and within deadlines;
  • Review tax computations for accuracy and compliance and provide technical tax guidance to internal departments;
  • Implement tax-saving strategies and evaluate potential tax exposures;
  • Preparation and filing of tax refund claims (e.g., VAT, income tax);
  • Coordinate with external consultants and BIR on refund audits;
  • Track refund status and follow through with relevant agencies and prepare necessary reconciliations and supporting documentation;
  • Ensure completeness and accessibility of tax records and working papers;
  • Mentor junior staff on tax document management and BIR systems;
  • Preparation of risk analysis and proposing mitigations for potential tax exposures;

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or any related field;
  • At least 2 years of experience in tax compliance, preferably handling multiple entities;
  • Strong knowledge of Philippine tax laws and BIR regulations;
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and experience with tax software or ERP systems is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with BIR, SEC, and other regulatory submissions;
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple deadlines;
  • Ability to engage and communicate with various levels of the organization and uphold confidentiality and demonstrate integrity;
  • Ability to adapt and contribute to process improvement initiatives, including audit coordination and compliance reporting;
  • Skills in proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications;
  • Skills in strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Strong time management and organizational skills;
