Macraes

Macraes – New Zealands’s largest active gold producing mine

Macraes operation consists of a large-scale surface mine, an underground mine where crews mine ore as low as 200m below sea level, and an adjacent process plant. Located in the Otago region of the South Island, and with over 600 people employed between our Mine Operation and Dunedin Office, Macraes is committed to contributing to the local economy through employment, procurement, community investment and donations.

Macraes are continually evolving with our industry and are frequently the first mine in the country to adopt new technologies to make our work safer, more efficient, and better for the environment, such as the first New Zealand mine to use an electric shovel, and the first to use x-ray technology to analyse gold content in ore samples.
