Our Waihi Operation in the North Island of New Zealand is an underground operation. A recent consent to develop the previous Martha mine has provided our project with an extension of life providing our 350 staff and contractors, and the people of Waihi, an assurance that we plan to be here for the long-term.
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Advisor to assist OceanaGold to meet its environmental monitoring and reporting requirements as we commence the first stage of our new underground mine, the Waihi North Project. The purpose of this position is to undertake environmental monitoring and reporting associated with the Waihi North Project including noise, air quality, surface and groundwater, vibration, and ecology.
The position will be responsible for undertaking an environmental monitoring programme to ensure high-quality environmental data is collected prior to the Waihi North Project commencing and ensuring that there are robust monitoring, reviewing and reporting systems in place to demonstrate compliance with consent conditions and other regulatory requirements.
The Advisor will provide environmental, site and consent knowledge to relevant projects either by management, coordination, or participation in projects.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate a baseline environmental monitoring programme to collect groundwater level, groundwater quality, surface water quality, and stream flow data.
- Oversee the installation and maintenance of environmental monitoring instrumentation, including meteorological, groundwater, and surface water monitoring equipment.
- Manage data from the monitoring network, undertake QA/QC, and communicate data to relevant parties including consultants.
- Assist the operation to meet all OceanaGold standards and guidelines. Participate or lead audits on company standards (environmental and safety) as required. Conduct environmental inspections.
- Liaise with personnel, consultants, auditors, and legal advisors to ensure company environmental targets are achieved.
- Prepare and review management plans in conjunction with the relevant departments to ensure consent and legal compliance.
- Monitoring and assessment of water, sound, air quality, vibration, ecology, and rehabilitation activities.
- Carry out administrative functions (write reports, attend meetings, and disseminate information, complete purchase and service orders) commensurate with role.
- Participation in an on-call roster to provide 24/7 coverage for monitoring.
- Minimum of a tertiary qualification in Environmental or Earth Sciences, Resource Management or similar.
- Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive 4WD and manual vehicles is desired.
- Minimum 2+ years’ work experience in a regulatory monitoring environment, preferably within a mining or construction environment
- Environmental monitoring and reporting in any of the following areas: water quality, groundwater levels and quality, air quality, noise, vibration, ecology
