Job Description

The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.

OceanaGold is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Engineer – Mining who will be responsible for delivering all drill and blast engineering functions for the underground mine to ensure physicals are achieved in line with the life of mine plans and will report to the Senior Engineer – Mining.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Oversee the stoping process including preparation to execution of stope designs, reconciliation of completed stopes, and communicating stoping activities to operations and contractors
  • Collaborate with contractors and suppliers ensuring their compliance to company standards and regulations
  • Prepare explosive reports and statutory requirements of drill and blast function-related requests of MGB, PNP, etc. in a timely manner
  • Perform timely preparation of drill, charge designs, and stope notes to ensure that blasted stocks are maintained
  • Guide junior and graduate Drill & Blast engineers through effective coaching and mentoring
  • Monitor the consumables and coordinates requirements with the procurement team as needed
  • Analyzes rock characteristics to predict fragmentation outcomes
  • Utilize geological data to forecast fragmentation outcomes
  • Apply statistical methods to validate fragmentation predictions
  • Coordinate with geologists and engineers to optimize blast performance
  • Utilize software tools to model blast scenarios and modifies blast parameters under supervision to improve efficiency as well as evaluates blast results against predefined benchmarks
  • Conducts safety assessments and identifies potential hazards in blast plans

Qualifications

  • Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Values and the OceanaGold Way 
  • Licensed Mining Engineer
  • At least two (2) years’ experience within the surface and underground mining environment or equivalent
  • With a valid Professional Driver’s License and Radio Operator’s License is an advantage
  • Knowledgeable in Deswik CAD and UGDB
  • Production and development blasting schemes
  • Possess knowledge in explosives management
  • Ability to use logic and intuition to arrive at decisions or solutions to problems to achieve the desired outcome
  • Good communication skills both oral and written
  • Drive for continuous improvement and innovation
