The primary role of the Exploration Geologist is to support gold exploration programs at and near the Haile gold mine. Essential functions include:
- Contribute to geological work including core and RC chip logging, assist with drill logistics, sample collection, geologic mapping, geologic log review and reinterpretation, QAQC tracking and reporting, and other areas as needed
- Contribute to 3D digital geologic models and generate interpretive sections and plan maps
- Contribute to developing drill targets through conceptual geological understanding and applied deposit knowledge
- Contribute to reporting products for a variety of audiences
- Act in accordance with and promote Company values and best practices
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or closely related field required, Master’s degree preferred
- 0-5 years of mining and/or exploration experience
- Competence with industry-standard software preferred (i.e. Leapfrog, Vulcan, ArcGIS)
- Demonstrated interpretive geological skills
- Experience with core logging and mapping preferred
- Good understanding of ore deposit models and geological processes
- Exposure to economic parameters of mining operations and exploration projects
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, community and environment
- Must be able to legally work in the USA
- Must possess a valid USA drivers’ license
- Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, talk, hear, and see.
- Be able to walk over rugged terrain up to 6 miles per day in hot & humid and/or cold weather with occasional rain & snow.
- Must be able to work 10-12 hour shifts.
- This is an on-site residential position with no remote work or fly-in fly-out schedule.
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
- Work is in a surface mine setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
- Safely operate 4WD light vehicles on highways, off-road, and on an active mine site.
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.
