As the Exploration Geologist you will be responsible for supporting the geological functions related to advancing the company’s exploration projects within the Waihi District generative pipeline. The role primarily involves core logging and other work to support diamond drilling planning and management functions. Additionally, the role involves assisting with geological field work including geological mapping and reconnaissance, geochemical sampling and geophysical survey work.
Core Logging
- Analysis and reporting of assay quality control data and sample turnaround time
- Provide accurate and complete geological data including sampling, assay, logging, and orientation information, required to enable generation of geological models, presentations and reports
- Data entry of geological data including dispatch logs, geological logs, drilling data and assay results including validation of QA/QC data
- Terraspec use and data collection from drill core samples.
Exploration
- Undertake diamond drill hole design and issue diamond drill design sheets.
- Manage active drill holes to ensure they are tracking as per design
- Participation in Waihi District generative greenfield exploration projects, including drill rig supervision
- Compilation of exploration data sets and relevant QA/QC information
- Compilation of internal and external reports as required
- Assist with geological projects by being involved with geological mapping geochemical sample collection and geophysical programmes as directed by the Senior Exploration Geologist
- Participation in helicopter supported and ground-based field programmes in a wide variety of settings including remote bush work.
- Tertiary Qualification – Minimum BSc. Geology
- 3-5 years Post-Graduate experience preferred
- Previous field experience looked on favourably, including in a Brownfield setting
- Previous experience managing drill rigs and logging drill core looked on favourably
- Sound technical skills in geology
- Mapping and Interpretation skills
- Sound PC skills and computer literacy
- Live and work in Waihi NZ, the gateway to the stunning Coromandel region
