The Exploration Maintenance Tech position is a critical role within our organization, reporting directly to the Drilling Superintendent. The successful candidate will be responsible for execution and continuous improvement of maintenance activities for drill rigs and support equipment across the exploration department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, environmental policies, and standard operating procedures
- Conduct thorough daily equipment inspections, promptly reporting and addressing any defects
- Operate specialized equipment, including the Dodge 5500 service truck, with precision and care
- Execute routine maintenance on a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment, including light vehicles, drill rigs, and support machinery
- Maintain accurate and detailed maintenance records, documenting all work performed and scheduling necessary repairs
- Perform complex repairs on drill rigs and support equipment
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating support equipment for diagnostic purposes and departmental needs
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage parts inventory to ensure optimal operational readiness
- Apply basic welding and fabrication skills for essential repairs
- Fulfill additional duties as required by the Exploration Group
Comprehensive understanding of a wide range of equipment, including but not limited to:
- Ford F150 and F250 trucks
- Dodge 5500 (gas and diesel models)
- Propane and diesel forklifts (Case)
- Bobcat skid steer
- CAT D5K dozer and CAT 420 backhoe
- Various commercial trucks (Sterling, International, Freightliner, Ford)
- Allmand light towers
- Mobile trailers
- Boart Longyear LF90D drill rigs
- Comprehensive understanding of basic mechanics and maintenance principles, essential for ensuring the optimal performance of complex drilling equipment
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver's License is mandatory; possession of a Commercial Driver's License is a benefit
- Extensive and demonstrable knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other critical mechanical components of heavy equipment
- Proven ability to work safely and effectively, both independently and as an integral part of a team, adhering to all safety protocols and operational standards
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
- Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts.
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
- Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.
