The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.
Seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Exploration Geologist (Surigao Based- Fixed term) to support and assist the company in its pursuit of exploration and discovery of Au-Cu deposits in the Philippines. The role will report to the Senior Geologist – Exploration.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Support Mineral Exploration and drilling activities
- Perform field-based Mineral Exploration, mapping and sampling activities
- Execute effective and safe Drilling Programs
- Document drilling activities and data accurately
- Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, and other visualizations to illustrate geological interpretations and support resource assessment activitiesConduct geological mapping and surveying activities independently, documenting observations and recording data accurately
- Identify and describe geological formations, rock types, and structural features based on field observations and measurements
- Collect and log geological surface and drilling samples using appropriate techniques and equipment, ensuring sample integrity and quality
- Conduct geological mapping exercises independently, mapping geological units, structures, and lithological boundaries with accuracy and detail
- Interpret geological features and relationships observed in the field, identifying patterns and trends that may indicate mineralization or structural controls
- Compare geological data from different sources such as drill logs, and geophysical surveys to identify colorations and anomalies
- Identify mineralization patterns and geological controls on mineral deposits based on geological data analysis
- Generate geological interpretations and recommendations based on data analysis to support exploration targeting or mine planning
- Examine and define factors that could adversely affect project task completion, delivery of contractual work products or achievement of departmental and organizational goals
- Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Values and the OceanaGold Way
- Licensed Geologist
- At least five (5) years’ experience in Mineral Exploration
- Knowledgeable in reconnaissance to detailed geological mapping, geochemistry including analysis of data and interpretation, sampling, management of diamond drilling program, geological and geotechnical core logging, data management, project generation, and GIS (mapinfo/discover/micromine)
- Knowledgeable in stages of mineral exploration and strong background in gold and copper mineralization is desired
- With a valid Professional Driver’s License
- Drive for continuous improvement and innovation
