The Manager - Risk & Internal Controls will oversee the New Zealand operations and other entities Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) program (SoX) and support both operating sites (Macraes and Waihi) to embed and maintain the OceanaGold Corporation (OGC) Risk Framework. This role involves annual scoping, risk assessment, coordination of design and operating effectiveness evaluations, and comprehensive project management. Additionally, the role will guide Risk Owners and Control Owners through the risk management process, ensuring meticulous planning, execution, and reporting of internal controls. The Manager will work with the Director Internal Controls (Corporate), Head of Risk (Corporate), and Head of Internal Audit (Corporate) while implementing and supporting specific areas within their remit for New Zealand operations.
Key responsibilities:-
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive Financial Governance framework that aligns with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- In collaboration with the Director, Internal Controls, develop the ICFR annual plan, assess the effectiveness of the design, including the testing plan.
- Coordinate and review the testing conducted by Internal Audit personnel and/or external resources.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, including Bill 198 (NI 52-109) or equivalent internal control frameworks (e.g. Sarbanes Oxley).
- Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory bodies during audits and interim reviews.
- Provide guidance and oversight of the risk management process, including facilitating bowtie assessments, risk owner self-assessments, and control owner self-assessments.
- Oversee the implementation and effectiveness of internal control and risk management systems.
- Collaborate with Internal Audit to ensure alignment on the planning, scope/objectives, execution of fieldwork and support the implementation of audit recommendations.
- Partner with functional leaders (e.g., Operations, IT, Procurement, Finance) to embed controls into processes and promote accountability.
- Support the Head of Internal Audit for reporting and follow up of prior internal audit findings (e.g. establish routing reporting, escalation of overdue and/or action items requiring extension, and assess risk exposure).
- Collaborate with the Head of Risk in relation to financial reporting and/or compliance related risks in support of the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferably Accounting, Finance, Business, Risk Management, or Engineering.
- CPA, CIA, CISA, or equivalent designation.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in Internal Audit/Controls and Risk Management.
- Strong proficiency in ICFR (NI 52-109, SOX) and risk management frameworks (e.g., ISO 31000, COSO).
- Experience in a publicly traded company, preferably in the mining, extractive, or heavy industry.
