Job Description
OceanaGold are seeking a suitably qualified and motivated Senior Environmental Advisor to support the delivery of the multi-year environmental work program to improve organisational environmental management and performance, aligned to corporate objectives. The role will provide technical input on the management of current and emerging environmental issues across the business to support improvements to corporate environmental policies and performance standards and ensure these are fit for purpose.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Support the development and implementation of environmental policies, standards, strategies, and programs.
- Develop guidance documentation and materials to support consistent implementation of environment standards, and key environmental metrics (for water, biodiversity, waste, etc).
- Project manage the design and implementation of company wide environmental initiatives linked to the Sustainability Strategy, such as TNFD and Circular Economy.
- Provide subject matter advice on environmental aspects and applying environmental policy and standards on-site.
- Collate, consolidate, and assist in updates to material environmental risk assessments to inform a group risk profile.
- Assist in annual strategic and tactical planning for the environmental function, including development of performance metrics.
- Collate and analyse environment related data and information required for preparing internal and external reporting (internal and external) and prepare reports.
- Contribute to internal and external reporting on OGC’s environmental performance.
- Collaborate with the OGC Digital Technology team, and site environmental teams, to support the implementation of a group wide environmental data management solution.
- Provide ongoing support to site environment teams and be a key point of contact on implementation and training of the group environmental data management solution.
- Assist in the development and update of group environment dashboards. Assist sites with operational specific environment dashboards to develop consistency in reporting and presentation.
- Monitor the group environmental compliance register, action tracking and report (via dashboard) to the functional team.
- Support the design and delivery of the corporate (level 2) environmental assurance program, through developing assurance protocols and supporting material to guide assurance activities.
- Undertake level 2 assurance activities across the operational areas to assess organisational performance.
- Provide support to sites and functional areas to prepare for external corporate led assurance activities, where these have a strong environmental focus.
- Maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with key internal stakeholders (site environmental teams) to promote and embed the broader sustainability strategy objectives and goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 + years cumulative post graduate relevant experience, of working in a senior advisor role or similar.
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, or an environmentally related discipline.
- Qualified ISO internal auditor (preferably lead auditor training and experience)
- Experience within a mining / resource environment preferred
