Job Description
OceanaGold are seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Senior Metallurgist to safely manage, motivate and participate as part of the technical team, to identify and realize aspects associated with ore processing, to maximize gold and copper recoveries, develop testing regimes and analyze data for project work to realize process plant recovery and throughput improvements. The role will report to the Metallurgical Superintendent.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Conducts investigative and systematic testing for plant recovery improvements, cost reduction and or plant throughput improvements;
- Optimize reagent usage through continuous coordination with external consultants and suppliers on laboratory tests works and plant trials;
- Provides technical support to the Operations department to improve Process plant performance
- Process plant monitoring and troubleshooting;
- Leads the Metallurgical staff to ensure that the Metallurgical laboratory effectively delivers results for Process Operations;
- Monitors and evaluates Process Plant parameters to identify and act upon potential risks or improvement opportunities;
- Coordinates and supervises the Metallurgical staff in completing applicable test works, business case study and process design prior to project execution;
- Liaises with engineering and maintenance personnel to effectively deliver project requirements through project management;
- Performs efficient data and cost-benefit analysis;
- Reports on production by preparing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly statistics as required;
- Provides ongoing training and development to metallurgical staff by developing their Training Needs Analysis and Competency Tools; and
- Liaises with external consultants, researchers, laboratories and other sites to improve technical knowledge with the main objective to efficiently operate the process plant.
Qualifications
Educational Background:
- BS Metallurgical Engineering
Work Experience and Background:
- At least 7 years in a metallic mine processing plant
- Exposure to gold and copper extraction preferred
Specialization/License:
PRC License in Metallurgical Engineering
Knowledge:
- Metallurgical plant engineering design
- Mass balance
- Metal accounting
- Metallurgical laboratory testwork
Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving skills with complex problems, including both definition of the problem and generation and evaluation of solutions
- Must be able to achieve set goals, including utilizing and organizing given resources
- Critical thinking and effective decision-making skills from a range of options
- Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to convince others to cooperate and contribute.
- Computer literate, able to drive a light vehicle (optional)
- Satisfactory results from the prescribed medical examination and psychological appraisal which may indicate fitness and ability to carry out prescribed tasks to required performance and safety standards
