The Water Treatment Plant Mechanical and Electrical Planner is responsible for developing and maintaining detailed maintenance plans to ensure safe, efficient, and effective execution of proactive and corrective work. This role integrates inputs from operations, reliability, and maintenance teams to create executable work packages, manage backlog, and support continuous improvement in asset performance.
This planner is specifically accountable for both Mechanical and Electrical maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant, ensuring that all work is scoped, resourced, and scheduled in alignment with production priorities and safety standards.
The planner ensures alignment with the company’s Work Management framework and supports planning governance through schedule readiness, material availability, and resource coordination. The role requires strong technical knowledge, planning discipline, and cross-functional collaboration to optimize plant availability and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed job plans and work packages for preventive, corrective, and statutory maintenance activities.
- Review and prioritize incoming work requests in alignment with asset criticality and production priorities.
- Maintain accurate backlog and ensure work orders are properly scoped, resourced, and scheduled.
- Coordinate with supply chain to ensure timely procurement of materials and services.
- Validate job plans with execution teams and incorporate feedback for continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and include relevant permits and risk assessments in work packages.
- Support weekly scheduling meetings and provide input to the integrated maintenance schedule.
- Monitor planning KPIs such as schedule compliance, backlog age, and work order cycle time.
- Collaborate with reliability engineers to incorporate failure history and improvement actions into plans.
- Ensure alignment with the company’s Work Management framework and planning standards.
- Maintain CMMS data accuracy including task lists, BOMs, and equipment hierarchies.
- Support shutdown and turnaround planning with detailed scope development and resource forecasting.
- Facilitate planning readiness reviews and ensure work is schedule-ready before execution.
- Champion planning discipline and promote proactive maintenance culture across teams.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical scopes for Water Treatment Plant assets, ensuring integrated planning and execution.
- Maintain strong field presence to validate job scopes, support execution teams, and reinforce planning standards.
- Act as a leader in the field, promoting safety, quality, and continuous improvement through visible engagement.
Key Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in maintenance planning within a heavy industrial or mining environment.
- Trade certification in mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation discipline preferred.
- Strong understanding of maintenance processes, reliability principles, and asset management.
- Proficiency with CMMS platforms (ProntoXi preferred). Experience with SAP, Maximo, or Oracle is also considered valuable.
- Experience with rotating equipment, pumps, valves, instrumentation, and water treatment systems.
- Ability to read technical drawings and develop accurate job scopes.
- Strong communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- High attention to detail and commitment to planning standards.
- Experience supporting shutdown or turnaround planning is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and drive planning outcomes.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Schedule Compliance – % of work executed as per weekly schedule.
- Backlog Management – Age and volume of backlog by priority and asset class.
- Work Order Cycle Time – Time from request approval to execution readiness.
- Planning Quality – % of work orders returned due to incomplete or inaccurate planning.
- Field Validation Rate – % of planned jobs validated in the field prior to execution.
- Material Readiness – % of planned jobs with all materials available at least 48 hours before scheduled start.
- Execution Feedback Integration – % of completed jobs with feedback incorporated into future plans.
- Safety Integration – % of work packages including required permits, JHAs, and risk assessments.
