Job Description

Summer is coming! Internship Applications are now Open!

Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Geology or an Earth Science related field looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our Exploration and Geology team at OceanaGold Waihi operation.

This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid to late November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant).

What will you, be doing?

  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

  • Geochemical or geophysical survey completion in the prospect area.
  • Completion of mapping in a specific area and assist with data collation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Work alongside the geology/exploration team conducting geochemical sampling and ground based geophysics.
  • Assisting with geological field mapping in remote native bush within the OceanaGold Waihi - Southern Coromandel permitted area.
  • Gain experience collecting and analysing field data.

Qualifications

What do I need, to join the Intern program?

  • In your 3rd or final year of study or post grad/masters (Geology or Earth Science related field).
  • Have accommodation options at Waihi or surrounding areas.
  • Current & strong academic performance and a passion for your chosen field.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Full Drivers License and the ability to drive a manual vehicle preferred.
  • Availability to participate from mid-late November, through to mid-February (2025-2026).
