What will you be doing?
- Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
- Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
- Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.
What Internship opportunites are available?
Intern - External Affairs & Social Performance
Message development, content creation, social media tracking, and other supporting communication elements focused on demonstrating the benefit of mining in Waihi. Also, educating the general public outside Waihi on mining methods used, and the opportunities of the proposed Waihi North Project.
Intern - Environmental
Summer environmental and ecological field work involving data management and administrative tasks related to the Waihi North Project. This specifically includes native fauna surveys for frogs and lizards, surface and groundwater quality sampling, environmental monitoring equipment installation and maintenance, pest monitoring and pest control.
Intern - Processing
Completing mini-trials with the Plant Metallurgist to improve plant performance and control. Trials include, carbon health management – screen sizes, acid dosing. Working with the Control systems engineer to complete PowerBI reports and improve the reporting from the database and setup a goldroom critical variables page.
Intern - Geology
Provide accurate density values for Waihi North Project estimates and provide support for experienced team members where needed. Helping out with core logging and wax density testing for Wharekirauponga (WKP) core.

What do I need, to join the Intern program?
- Current & strong academic performance and a passion for your chosen field.
- Effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Full Driving Licence, with the ability to drive a manual vehicle preferred.
- Availability to participate from mid-late November, through to early February.
- Based at Waihi Operations, one of New Zealand’s largest gold mines.
- Work on “real-life” projects, related to your field of study.
- Benefit from the coaching and mentoring of senior mining professionals.
