Job Description

  • Operational Responsibilities
    • Ensure the collection of geotechnical information (shotcrete coring, paste core samples, core logging, geologic mapping, rock, soil and stream sediment) is to a high standard and quality.
      • Shotcrete cylinder samples
      • Fibercrete panel tests
      • Grout cube samples
      • Rock bolt pull testing
      • Backfill cylinder samples
      • Geotechnical core logging (Q’)
      • Grade control and resource development core logging and sampling
      • Other geotechnical tests as required by management
    • Accurately and timely processing of all relevant sampling data.
    • Maintain clean and tidy Geotech lab; ensure equipment is calibrated, maintained, and fit for purpose.
    • Ensures proper use of equipment and tools to minimise damage and associated replacement or maintenance costs.
    • Lead by example and always promote best practice with regards to geotechnical systems developed on site.
    • Maintain a strong line of communication and reporting on progress to the Engineering Superintendent and Engineering/Geology team.
    • Ensure compliance to statutory requirements.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment
    • Comply with OceanaGold Health and Safety Policy and Environment Policy.
    • Promoting safety awareness and environmental responsibility amongst company and contract personnel.
    • Report all personal injuries and incidents and assisting with investigations.
    • Actively supporting and participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
    • Accepting accountability to ensure personal safety and the safety of others whilst protecting the environment.
    • Monitor the reporting of workplace incidents and hazards to ensure effective risk mitigation is maintained.
    • Undertake workplace inspections and audits to ensure site standards are being adhered to.
    • Support incident investigations that occur within area of control.

Qualifications

  • Education
    • 4-year degree in Geophysical Sciences or Engineering
    • Or High school diploma with 3+ years of Geotechnical Technician experience
  • Skills
    • Microsoft Office competence
    • Database knowledge is advantageous
    • Highly organized and meticulous attention to detail
  • Certification
    • Certifications not required, any American Concrete Institute (ACI) or state level DOT certifications will be advantageous.

Additional Information

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
  • Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
  • Must be able to climb 25’ vertical ladder sections unaided.
  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
