Due to growth, our Macraes Underground Geotechnical team are on the search for a Geotechnical Technician. Whether you are a recent graduate, or someone a little more experienced across the industry, this role could be for you!
Working a 8 on, 6 off dayshift only roster, this position will work to manage the stability of the underground working environment through systematic data collection, geotechnical analysis, planning and underground inspections in line with the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP), mitigating risk to personnel and equipment whilst allowing production targets to be met.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Conduct all required QAQC on ground support as outlined in the Ground Control Management Plan – including ground support audits, pull testing, shotcrete and grout testing
- Install and maintain underground geotechnical monitoring systems and equipment including convergence points, Cyclops, MPBX, smart cables and LiDAR scanners, ensuring equipment is properly serviced, calibrated and maintained in a reliable condition to support critical mining functions.
- Undertake daily inspections of the underground environment, including active headings, stopes and blast performance, installed ground support, reported hazards, new structural features and priority monitoring areas
- Respond appropriately, and as required by SOPs and TARPs, to critical monitoring alarms.
- Prepare ground support rehab plans in a timely fashion based on observed performance, operational requirements and risk.
- Understand and comply with the site Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and Principal Hazard Management Plan (PHMP) for Ground Instability, ensuring that the plans are followed under the direction of senior geotechnical staff.
- Maintain regular and open communication with relevant members of the geotechnical, geology, mine planning, mine operations and mine management teams.
- Perform all work and associated functions safely.
- A recognised degree in Geology, Rock Mechanics or Engineering Geology or equivalent tertiary qualification is highly regarded but not essential.
- Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles.
- Good level of fitness and ability for manual handling 20kg+
Experience
- Previous underground experience will be well regarded but is not essential
- Competency and proven experience using 3D mining, geological modelling and database software such as LEAPFROG, DESWIK, MICROMINE, VULCAN, MINESIGHT and ACQUIRE advantageous.
- Experience with geotechnical software such as DIPS and UNWEDGE advantageous.
- Excellent computer skills with proven ability working with reports, presentations, spreadsheets and databases
