  • Complying with OceanaGold Health and Safety Policy and Environment Policy.
  • Actively promoting safety awareness and environmental responsibility amongst company and contract personnel.
  • Reporting all personal injuries and incidents and assisting with investigations.
  • Actively supporting and participate in safety and environmental initiatives
  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures
  • Accepting accountability to ensure personal safety and the safety of others whilst protecting the environment.
  • Monitor the reporting of workplace incidents and hazards to ensure effective risk mitigation is maintained.
  • Undertake workplace inspections and audits to ensure site standards are being adhered to.
  • Coordinate incident investigations that occur within area of control.cc
  • Coordinate the effective maintenance of all underground mining equipment, repairs of all mining equipment attachments by way of fabrication works and means necessary that are in accordance with budget and operational requirements
  • Take ownership of operational management of maintenance and repair contracts (MARC) to ensure contractors are meeting objectives for mine fleet maintenance which includes recruitment, occupational health and safety, environmental compliance, in budget, and mine production.
  • Coordinate efficiency and relationship between all key personnel involved with the underground operations.
  • Take lead of underground mining equipment continuous improvement plan.
  • Maintain a strong line of communication & reporting on key performance indicators to the Mine Manager and Underground Team.
  • Manage and establish preventative maintenance and repairs of all underground mining equipment.
  • Meet production and project deadlines.
  • Assist with transitioning underground project to that of an efficient mining operation
  • Development and implementation of maintenance planning systems and work management
  • Establish and maintain a productive project culture through effective people management and team building.
  • Monitor the maintenance team performance and align their activities as necessary to ensure requirements are achieved.
  • Communicate regularly with all staff to ensure that goals and priorities are clearly understood and to promote a harmonious working environment.
  • Knowledge of underground mining equipment in addition to key surface infrastructure facilities that could include the following, but not limited to:
    • Development and Longhole Drills
    • Underground Loaders and Haul Trucks
    • Shotcrete Sprayers
    • Underground Bolting Machines
    • Concrete Batch Plants and Crushers
    • Dewatering pumps
    • Load centers and jumbo-boxes
    • Ventilation fans
  • Communications systems (leaky feeder, fiber optic, autonomous equipment)
  • Become familiar with and where appropriate apply continuous improvement plans to improve the life of assets
  • Manage the flow of technical information between mechanics, contractors, electricians, and mine operations. 
  • Actively exchange technical information and learnings within the organization to maintain awareness of internal projects, developments, and trends 
  • Identifying and managing risks and opportunities for underground maintenance department.
  • Ensure all activities within area of control are completed to the specifications nominated for the works being undertaken.
  • Ensure all works under area of control are completed to a standard that is fit for purpose and meets the end users’ requirements.

  • Ability to work harmoniously in cross cultural environments.
  • Ability to engage external consultants and contractors.
  • Excellent planning, organizing and prioritization capabilities.
  • A motivated self-starter who can operate autonomously and is a natural leader.
  • A high degree of computer literacy is required, with effective skills in MS products desired
  • Experience with pronto ERP or similar software
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues
  • Knowledge and experience with hard rock underground operations equipment
  • Knowledge with fixed plant, high voltage electrical and communications systems
  • 15+ years’ relevant experience of which 5+ years would have been in an underground mining master mechanic or maintenance superintendent role
  • Experienced with both start-up projects and operating environments.
  • Trade Qualifications or Degree in Engineering or related discipline (e.g., Mining/Civil, Mechanical, Electrical).
  • MSHA 40 hour trained or past MSHA training
  • MSHA Blue Card Certification

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
  • Must be able to work shift work with 12 hour shifts.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
