Celebrating 35 Years of OceanaGold: Join Us In Our Next Chapter

We’ve recently celebrated the 35th anniversary of Macraes Mine, the flagship operation and birthplace of OceanaGold. Comprised of several open pit mines and the Golden Point Underground Mine, many of our workers have been with Macraes for decades and we’re always looking to expand our team!

Macraes Mine 35th Anniversary Open Day

In the Macraes Village, our celebration carnival brought our underground mine to the surface—our hop-on-hop-off bus tours even got fully booked out!

We offered a rare opportunity to explore parts of Macares Mine where attendees could climb onto our haul trucks, discover gold, and learn all things modern gold mining.

From bouncy castles to digger competitions, there was something for everyone! Families enjoyed an exclusive look inside our mine operations, climbed onto massive mining machinery and toured our processing plant. Over a thousand people came along for the ride to celebrate 35 years of OceanaGold.

  • Our operation consists of a large-scale open pit mine, two underground mines and a processing plant
  • We are New Zealand’s largest gold mine and we operate a “world class” deposit 
  • Our mining lifecycle is circular and we repeat each stage as new areas are explored and existing ones closes
  • Inital exploration for an area can take five to ten years or even longer! This is where our teams determine if a mineral resource is present or extends past what is currently documented.
