Responsible for monitoring and managing operational geotechnical risks associated with the surface operations and tailings storage facility and provide solutions to day to day geotechnical problems.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Complete geotechnical mapping and geotechnical core logging for specific drilling programs
- Implement and monitor geotechnical instrumentation
- Input into the collection, interpretation , and reporting of geotechnical monitoring data
- Management of geotechnical QA/QC and Monitoring databases in line with site guidelines.
- Undertake regular geotechnical inspections of all surface, underground and tails storage infrastructure that requires geotechnical input or monitoring in relation to Ground and Strata Instability
- Assist with the review and implementation of site Geotechnical Management Systems such as the Principal Hazard Management Plan and the Ground Control Management Plan
- Provide geotechnical support services to the mining operation in relation to day to day development and production processes.
- Assist in drill and blast design in relation to Stope Assessment, Slope Stability and/or Tunnel Design.
- Understanding of soil and rock mechanics fundamentals in relation to excavation, backfill, tunnelling and ground support design
- Assist with crew education and ground awareness training
- Supervision of consultants and contractors, as necessary.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in a mining environment is preferred
- Relevant tertiary qualification in either Geomechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Exposure to geotechnical design work
- Experience with rock mass classification systems, geotechnical analysis, structural mapping, ground support design and underground mining QA/QC programs
- Familiarization with various geotechnical software packages
- Team leadership, problem solving, and excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently.
