Job Description

Haile Gold Mine located in South Carolina is the largest gold mine on the East Coast of America. Our employees are at the heart of all we do. The Superintendent – Mobile Maintenance role ensures the efficient and safe operation of all maintenance activities within a Haile mine site. This involves overseeing the maintenance of mining equipment, light vehicles, and facilities to maximize operational efficiency, reliability, and minimize downtime.

Safety

  • Ensures personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies, including Fitness for Work.
  • Completes HSE tasks only if hazards and potential consequences are understood and mitigations are in place
  • Leads incident investigations to ensure adequate risk mitigation is in place.

People

  • Works constructively within a diverse group of people and departments.
  • Mentors and develops Maintenance Supervisors and Lead Technicians.
  • Develops and implements succession planning within the department.
  • Actively engages with apprentices to ensure their development progress.
  • Provides oversight of quality, safety, and work output in the mobile maintenance area.
  • Delivers consistently on commitments and takes accountability for their own and department’s development.

Production

  • Oversees and participates in all aspects of mobile maintenance activities.
  • Ensures performance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met for the Mobile Mining Fleet.
  • Provides technical and strategic advice to Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Ensures compliance with the Management Operating System (MOS).
  • Monitors progress of large maintenance events and provides updates to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensures Short Interval Control (SIC), documentation, maintenance, and service records for equipment are complete and up to date.
  • Communicates and coordinates with the planning team and attends planning meetings.
  • Acts in the Maintenance Manager Role as required
  • Undertakes other duties as required by the Maintenance Manager.

Cost

  • Ensures budget compliance in the Mobile Maintenance area.
  • Monitors and manages the spend within the Mobile Maintenance area
  • Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities and identifies & reports any cost wastage within the designated area.

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualifications or Technician with 10 years relevant mining mechanical experience (essential).
  • Leadership training and development.
  • Relevant Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Training.
  • Driver’s License (essential).
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety and understands legal requirements, HSE standards, and standard operating procedures relevant to the direct work area.
  • Works well with others, listens actively, seeks inputs, and asks clarification questions to check understanding, staying focused and composed in various work situations.
  • Ability to mentor and technically develop supervision and less experienced personnel.
  • Effectively manages own and team’s time to complete tasks in line with job expectations and requirements, adjusting plans to cater for unforeseen events/disruptions.
  • Recognizes problems and proactively works towards resolution under the guidance of the immediate Supervisor.
  • Recognizes opportunities to minimizes waste and addresses it according to HSE and operational standards and practices.
  • Works in accordance with MSHA, Oceana Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures, and Oceana Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures.
  • General diagnostic capability with mining equipment.
  • Advanced Engine & Powertrain Diagnostics Skills.
  • Advanced Hydraulic Diagnostics Skills.
  • Advanced Electric Drive Diagnostics Skills (advantageous).
  • 10+ years relevant work experience within a mobile mine maintenance environment (essential).
  • Relevant experience in maintaining equipment in a mobile fleet mining environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.
  • High attention to detail and quality with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Komatsu, Caterpillar, & supporting systems.
