Job Description

OceanaGold are seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Project Geologist – Mine Geology who will be responsible in maintaining a grade control system to ensure the quality of ore production is obtained as well as the quality and quantity of the ore delivered to the mill. Responsible also in supervising resource definition and hydrogeological drilling, as well as other sampling and mapping campaigns to better understand and consequently communicate results to the Technical Services, Mining Management, Process, and Surface Operation teams to make timely and efficient decisions. The role will report to the Senior Geologist – Mine Geology.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Communicate to the drilling contractor the designs and requirements for specific diamond drill holes to be drilled
  • Ensure that drill designs are followed by the drill contractor with regards to collar location, hole depth, hole alignment, and core size, among others
  • Communicate with mine planning team the weekly drill schedule to be incorporated with the weekly mine plan to ensure drill cuddies are available
  • Report daily drilling progress and activities
  • Assist in core logging activities, layout and preparation of core samples for logging
  • Perform Magsus, pXRF, Terraspec measurements, data collation, management and assist in data interpretation and core dispatch
  • Ensure underground stockpiles are marked correctly for proper material handling and hauling
  • Maintain underground stockpile tracking database and communicate to operations its status
  • Record and validate daily material movement from underground
  • Daily report tonnes and grades of materials moved from underground
  • Assist in preparing stope notes and stope reconciliation report
  • Document daily underground development advances through face maps and photos
  • Daily update of geologic map in the Geology office
  • Actively promote safety health & environmental awareness in order to prevent injuries and/or damage

Qualifications

  • Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Corp. Values and the OceanaGold Way;
  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology;
  • Licensed Geologist;
  • Minimum of 4 years working experience in Open Pit or Underground Geology;
  • With a valid Professional Driver’s license;
  • Proficient in 3D software packages (Leapfrog, Minesight, Surpac, Deswik, etc);
  • With geology and grade control experience is highly regarded;
  • Possess a strong drive for health and safety management; and
  • Drive for continuous improvement and innovation.
