Job Description
OceanaGold are seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Senior Metallurgist to safely manage, motivate and participate as part of the technical team, to identify and realize aspects associated with ore processing, to maximize gold and copper recoveries, develop testing regimes and analyze data for project work to realize process plant recovery and throughput improvements.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Conducts investigative and systematic testing for plant recovery improvements, cost reduction and or plant throughput improvements
- Optimize reagent usage through continuous coordination with external consultants and suppliers on laboratory tests works and plant trials
- Provides technical support to the Operations department to improve Process plant performance
- Process plant monitoring and troubleshooting
- Leads the Metallurgical staff to ensure that the Metallurgical laboratory effectively delivers results for Process Operations
- Monitors and evaluates Process Plant parameters to identify and act upon potential risks or improvement opportunities
- Coordinates and supervises the Metallurgical staff in completing applicable test works, business case study and process design prior to project execution
- Liaises with engineering and maintenance personnel to effectively deliver project requirements through project management
- Performs efficient data and cost-benefit analysis
- Reports on production by preparing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly statistics as required
- Liaises with Maintenance personnel to ensure technical requirements of the Process Plant are met
- Ensures accuracy and timeliness of production reports by utilizing channels of documentation
- Responsible for mentoring the Junior Metallurgical team
- Ensure compliance to company policies and procedures, statutory requirements and support to compliance with ISO 14001 and 50001
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering
- Licensed Metallurgist
- 7 years of experience in a Metallic Mine processing plant and exposure to gold and copper base metal extraction including exposure to Automated Control Systems (DCS) and SCADA is preferred
- High levels of enthusiasm for the work with high-performance goals for self and team
- Commercial acumen relevant to the role and strong demonstrated abilities to lead and work effectively within culturally diverse workforce settings
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
- Pro-active attitude toward health and safety
