Our President and CEO, Gerard Bond, sat down to discuss our top growth project, the Waihi North Project in New Zealand. The project is set to boost the local economy, employ around 1,000 people, and bring significant benefits to the Waihi community and beyond.

Read on as we explore some of the benefits of this operation as well as mining jobs in New Zealand with OceanaGold!

The Waihi North Project

It’s no secret that in the mining industry, we will always need professionals and specialists to fill our roles—we need people who are skilled in inspecting and maintaining our stations as well as much more.

The project’s history

We acquired the Waihi Mining operations in 2015 and have been committed to extending the life of mining in Waihi.

We’ve undertaken extensive exploration in the area where we found further gold and silver resource deposits beneath Wharekirauponga—the location of the proposed Gladstone Open Pit, which we’ve named the Waihi North Project.

Benefits of our new project

  • Job creation in the area
  • Dviersifies the earnings of the town
  • Provides professionals and specialists with well-paying jobs
  • The NZ Government has acknowledged the Waihi North Project’s significant regional and national benefits.

Our proposed plans stand to create additional jobs in the region which is where you come in!

We aspire to be as diverse as the communities in which we live and work, we strive to ensure that every person feels valued, included and can perform at their best.
